Google Analytics Monthly Report Overview

This is a guide to the Monthly Google Analytics report you receive for your website. We are happy to provide more in-depth reports on any of the data provided, however there may be costs involved with doing so (depending on what you want to know and how long it takes to distill that information). We are always happy to support you in understanding any of the data in your reports, we believe the key to managing your website is measuring its performance.

In our monthly reports we have tried to focus on three main areas:

Generating PHP from XSL

Check your encoding when generating PHP files using XSL:

In order to generate PHP parsable output from the Klixo content management system, the file produced must be encoded as UTF-8 (certainly not UTF-16 / unicode).  If not, the file may appear valid in a text file viewer but when compiled, the php code will appear verbatim in the converted HTML file.

To solve this problem, include the line

<xsl:output encoding="UTF-8" />

...inside the xml:stylesheet tag.

Klixo Search Web Service

Klixo's XML Search Engine Web Service is a powerful and customisable search engine service that integrates with any website. The following article describes how to query the service using a URI (link) or a Form. The web service offers the following features:

Graphic Designer's Guide to Web Page Design

Klixo can convert Adobe Photoshop and Fireworks designed documents into webpages. We convert PNG/PSD to XHTML and PNG/PSD to XSL by hand. Here are some guidelines for graphic designers who are laying up a web page design.

Which format?

We prefer layered PNGs, but we also can import PSDs with the layers intact

What resolution?

Minimum would be 72 DPI, maximum 150 DPI, 96 DPI is a good compromise and is the default resolution for most Windows XP desktops.

Internet Explorer 7 Upgrade Issues

Microsoft have released the latest version of Internet Explorer, version 7 (IE7). Klixo has thoroughly tested the website manager with IE7, but some settings may require re-configuration; after installing IE7 you may find that some Klixo functions produce an error message. This article highlights these issues and offers remedies.

Klixo no longer a trusted site

Symptom:
The green tick "Trusted Sites" icon is no longer visible when using the Klixo website manager

Publishing Status

Klixo uses sophisticated distributed processing to publish documents to your web server in the quickest time possible, without impacting on the performance of your website or that of the Klixo CMS. The performance of the Klixo publishing servers can vary from time to time so sometimes it is useful to check the Publishing Status to see how the network is performing. This document describes the Klixo Publishing Status Page, and the meanings of the various dashboard items.

Klixo Font Viewer

The Klixo Font Viewer is a tool for testing the font families sizes and variants that are supported by Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox on PC and Mac platforms. We have provided this tool as a starting point for Graphic designers and web designers when choosing fonts for web page designs, text and menus. The tool allows you to choose from a list of font families and variants that are supported by the most popular web browsers, and view the font applied to your own sample text.
